 River Rendezvous at the Gates of the Mountains  Come learn about the effects of wildfires and recreation on the Missouri River at the Council’s 2nd Annual River Rendezvous. The event will feature a boat tour for invited guest, barbeque, informational speakers, and, with any luck, some good weather!  Call the Council office at (406) 454-0056 for more information.

Chat with the Chair….A Note from out-going Chairman Jim Beck

In January, several of the members of the Council had an opportunity to meet with members of the legislature.  What I had anticipated as an evening of trying to convince legislators of the timeliness and merits of local conservation turned out entirely differently.  After three hours of causal, but frank, discussions I concluded that legislators have the best interest of Montana and its people at heart.  Their approach and methods to accomplish that goal may differ from mine, but I found that for the most part, we are aiming for the same target.

Eco-Challenge Brings the Big Bucks By the “River Runners”

 A big vision and lots of hard work are beginning to pay off big for a group of students at Holy Spirit middle school in Great Falls.  A team of five 7th-graders created an award-winning wetlands project that has earned them both respect and cash.

The first ever “Flowing of the Rivers” ceremony was held in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Bahia Grande Limpienato Parade and Coastal Cleanup held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 in Port Isabel and South Padre Island, Texas.

Welcome to the Council

  The Council welcomes the following new members:Nick Schultz from the Petroleum County Conservation District.  Nick returned to the family ranch in Petroleum County after working a number of years for the Bureau of Land Management.  He was appointed to the CD as an Associate Supervisor in 2008 after taking an active role in the CD’s GLCI grant for rangeland diversity sage grouse workshops.
