MRCDC Coordinator's Meeting Report - Roosevelt County CD
| Who: |
Laurie Riley, Buzz Mattelin |
| What: |
Roosevelt County Conservation District meeting |
| Where: |
Culbertson, MT |
| When: |
March 1, 2011 |
| Why: |
Trying to visit each Conservation District in our Council at least once per year in order to meet the Administrator and Supervisors, get an understanding of their local issues, and update them on activities and focus of the Council. This is first visit to the Roosevelt County CD. |
| Accomplished: |
Briefly filled the Board in on our major efforts, including CMR Community Working Group, MRRIC, BLM Central MT RAC, Missouri-Madison CREP addendum, cottonwood regeneration, Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM). The issue of importance to this county currently is the boom in oil drilling via hydraulic fracturing (fracing) on the Bakken Shale Oil Field. This process requires enormous amounts of water, which is then contaminated. The CD is planning on implementing a water monitoring program. It is important that someone attempt to quantify changes occurring from the drilling. Buzz Mattelin is very active in MRRIC.

| Follow Up: |
The CD is writing a letter to the USFWS opposing the Yellowstone Confluence NWR and asked that the Council write a similar letter of opposition. |
