Council Member Dana Darlington from the Big Sandy Conservation District recently took time out of his ever-busy schedule to plan and host a day of ranch tours in the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument (Monument) for the Bureau of Land Management’s Lewistown Field Office Manager, June Bailey. The group toured four ranches on the north side of the Missouri River, highlighting the history of ranching in the area, landowners’ conservation efforts, and local concerns. The tour provided local landowners with a unique opportunity to develop a personal relationship with a key leader of the BLM management team while providing Ms. Bailey with an opportunity to hear and address the landowners’ concerns in an informal and educational environment. The tour resulted from a conversation Ms. Bailey had with Council
Coordinator, Vicki Marquis, seeking assistance to rebuild community trust, goodwill, and cooperation with the agency. An additional tour along the south side of the Monument is planned for later this fall. To participate in the tour, please contact the Council office.
