Chat with the Chair…A Note from Chairman Jim Beck

It is spring! I know Mother Nature is trying to convince us otherwise with blankets of snow and one last touch of serious frost. Nevertheless, eventually the ice and snow will give way to sprouting grass, grain and other crops popping from the ground, lambs and calves full of energy, and water coming from thousands of small creeks and coulees to swell the Missouri River.

The Missouri River Conservation District Council is much like the beginning of spring. There are ideas and solutions that sprout up in any number of places. With nurturing by a local conservation district or by the Council, those budding ideas become solutions for real life problems. I am always impressed with the enthusiasm that the Council has to learn and explore issues. I am not sure if we keep up with those newborn calves, but we try. Just like the swell of water in the Missouri, the depth and strength of the Council comes from the contributions of it members, conservation districts, our coordinator, and other interested conservationists. As a composite, all of the ideas, comments, and discussions, lead to an effort that yields positive results.

I appreciate all of the ideas and efforts of the Council members and other people interested in our work. Thank you for making the Council a strong force, a force like that of the river from where we take our name.
