Posted January 31, 2007 - 1:00pm by admin.
On January 22nd, the Council will meet with officials from Southern Montana Electric to discuss plans for the Highwood Generating Station, a 250MW coal-fired circulating fluidized bed power plant proposed near Great Falls. The Southern Montana Electric presentation will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the Big Sandy Museum and is open to the public.
Raw water for the power plant will come from the Missouri River through an existing water right owned by the City of Great Falls. The plant will pull a maximum of 3200 gallons per minute from an intake to be placed in the Morony Dam pool.
Solid waste byproducts from the plant will include approximately 225 tons of fly and bottom ash and 2 tons of waste from the raw water treatment facility each day. The plant will generate enough power to fulfill the needs of the City of Great Falls and five rural electric cooperatives. The Council’s business meeting begins at 11:00 AM and includes discussion of a Missouri River Cleanup Week, weed control work, and a legislative update. Call (406) 468-0056
